Neighborhood Friends Groups
The Friends of the Madison Public Library was created in 1964 to help build the “new” (now much different) downtown library at 201 West Mifflin Street. FMPL works out of the Central Library and is closely linked to that building, but has a mission to ensure the best possible library service to the entire Madison public library community.
There are eight public neighborhood libraries in the city of Madison and each has its own Friends group. All Friends groups raise money for library programs and services. All groups sell used books, and some also raise money with other activities such as selling book bags, crafts, and baked goods.
